| FAQ (frequently asked
questions) Q: Will my
children be ok for that long out on the water? They might get
restless...
A: Children always have a good time.
There are many different things to do around the boat, and you are welcome
to bring along books and games, favorite foods, swimming gear, etc.
Maine State Law requires that all children 10 years of age or younger must
wear a Coast Guard approved PFD (life jacket) at all times. The boat
is equipped with a number of different sizes, but you can bring yours as
well.
Q: What happens if there is a thunderstorm?
A: We try to avoid being near thunderstorms,
and can often avoid them. However, the boat is a very safe ocean-going
vessel. A lightning hit would probably destroy all the electronics,
but is very unlikely to hurt anyone.
Q: What if the weather is bad when we're
scheduled to go out?
A: We will make every effort to try to
reschedule. The lake is fun and interesting in many different types of
weather, and we'll make sure you're absolutely safe and comfortable.
Q: What happens if there is no wind?
A: Moosehead Lake is rarely without wind, but
we have motors as well. During the 2006 season, we had the sails up
during 92% of cruises.
Q: Do people get seasick?
A: Nobody has been seasick yet... The
motion of the boat on the lake is different than the ocean, and we try to
avoid rough water when sensitive people are on board.
Q: Can we bring alcoholic beverages?
A: Yes, you may bring your own beer and drinks,
but please consume them in moderation. The boat does have (safe plastic)
wine glasses, openers, and the usual assortment of galley (kitchen)
equipment.
Q: What about bringing food?
A: You are welcome to bring your own food, or
arrange for us to provide it. The boat is equipped with a galley
(kitchen) with the typical dishes, flatware and stuff you might need.
It has a refrigerator, sink and two-burner stove, and we can set up a gas
grill on the aft rail when the boat isn't sailing.
Q: For overnight trips, where do we sleep?
A: You can sleep on the boat, or on land at one
of the campsites. The boat has two larger double berths aft and one
smaller berth forward, so we can comfortably accommodate four people plus
the captain. Call us and we can talk about it.
Q: Do you (bareboat) charter the boat
without a captain?
A: No, we do not have insurance coverage for
that. Besides, Moosehead can be a tricky lake to sail, with numerous
unmarked rocks and not much for charts. You can certainly do some or
all of the sailing though.
