NorthWind - a Maine Cat 30
NorthWind is a Maine Cat 30 sailing catamaran, built in
Bremen, Maine by the Maine Cat Company. She is hull #19, constructed
in 2000.

The Maine Cats are excellent sailing machines, with a
nice balance between performance and accommodation. They are light and
fast sailing, but have enough amenities to keep the sailors comfortable.

Dimensions:
Length overall: 30’
Beam (width): 18’
Draft: 24” / 5’0” with the single daggerboard down
Weight: 5,000 lb loaded
Mast height off deck: 42’0”
Sails:
Main: the biggest sail, right above the cockpit. It
is fully battened, with two reef points for reducing sail area in higher
winds.
Jib: smaller forward sail on the roller furling. It
also is self-tending, tacking back and forth by itself as the boat turns
through the wind.
Screacher: large forward sail on the bowsprit furler.
It works well in lighter winds, but requires a lot of line handling to jibe.
Sailing speeds can range from 0-12kts, but are typically
5-8kts. (a kt is one nautical mile per hour, a little faster than a mph)
Engines:
There are two 9.9hp 4-stroke Yamaha outboards, mounted
just inside the two hulls. They are raised and lowered from the water
with hand lines along the seats next to the helm.
Typical motoring speeds are 6-7.5 kts
Design and construction:
The hull, decks and most other parts are built of
fiberglass composite with core-cell foam, making it very lightweight and
strong.

Galley with two-burner stovetop, 12V refrigerator and sink
